Nod your head yes if this scenario sounds familiar: 8:00. Late bell rings in ten minutes. Drool is running down your chin. Your gut is churning from last night’s questionable choices. Four miles away from school. Traffic is crazy. There is no WAY you’re going to get to school on time, let alone have time to make copies. You check your reflection in the rear view mirror….. HOLY CRAP! It’s like Rocky Horror Show gone a teaching! A little voice in your head reminds you, “You know you have nothing planned for today!” NOOOOOOOOOO! Whether alcohol induced or not, we have all been in that situation; it’s ok to admit it. What to do when you have nothing to do? This book is divided into two sections that hopefully will help in any unplanned and/or desperate situation. These ideas work best in a language arts classroom 4th to 10th grade but are open enough that with a little adaptations, they can fit easily with any content curriculum. 1. Activities for those last 10 minutes that you didn’t quite plan for. 2. 30 minute lessons that help you in a crunch. 3. One problem based, student-centered project Although every strategy research based this most practical source is teacher friendly in that you don’t have to wade through a bunch of scholarly mish mash to get to what you really want to get to. The pages are black and white copy friendly and you’ll note that most of the blacklines are half paged so you can save that ever precious paper.
