The purpose of this book is to introduce the concept of the nursery rhyme but with updated characters, language and beats. This primary goal is to provide poetry for children to practice their reading fluency. A fluent reader not only reads quickly and smoothly but they also read with prosody. Prosody is just a fancy way of saying, “read with expression.” As a home tool, I would suggest reading your favorites every night using varying rhythm, dynamics, voices, and speed. As a school tool, these poems are flexible enough so that they can be used as read alouds, in small groups or one on one with children.
